Susan Miller, Ph.D. is founder of Voicetrainer, LLC, a voice coaching and communication consulting business serving clients in the Washington DC area, nationally and internationally. As a vocal coach, she specializes in the refinement of the speaking voice, elimination of public speaking anxiety, effective communication, and treatment of the injured voice user and has over twenty-six years of experience with professional and amateur speakers, radio and news broadcasters, non-native speakers, and singers.
Dr. Miller designs and implements programs to enhance clients’ voice quality, diction, projection, communication, and presentation abilities. She works with corporate, government, association and diplomatic clients and is the author of Be Heard the First Time.
Dr. Miller is a clinical consultant and an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at the Georgetown University Hospital and a clinical associate for The George Washington University Voice Treatment Center and has appeared on NBC, CBS, NPR and on other national radio or , television programs or print articles.
Dr. Miller frequently teams with Thomas Calcagni, principal and founder of Calcagni Media Coaching, who works with corporate, government, and association executives to develop high-impact communications messages and successfully respond to difficult questions during any type of Q&A session or media interviews.
Calcagni has more than 20 years of experience as a broadcaster, communications executive and media coach. He recently served as the most-senior public relations executive at the National Office of the American Automobile Association (AAA) and has been interviewed many times by the national news media, including interviews with Diane Sawyer and Catie Couric.
He began his career as a television reporter and anchor, and his reporting often appeared on CNN in the early days of the network. Calcagni also served as communications director to two United States Senators and has held senior executive communications positions at public and private corporations, associations and at public relations firms in Washington, DC and Seattle. He also is the author of the book Tough Questions – Good Answers : Taking Control of Any Interview.
Through their hands-on approach, Dr. Miller and Calcagni provide participants with highly individualized advice and practical tips for enhancing their communications skills and increasing their confidence as speakers.
